SAYING GOODBYE
You may be ready,
But I’m not as brave.
For nothing seems so
Silent as the grave.
A gravestone won’t
Respond to my touch
Or care about flowers
Or memories and such.
I had thought Time would
Keep these moments at bay
Until you could hold the
Children I hope to have one day.
But I know the rest you need
Is what awaits you if you go,
And you’ve lived a full
Life as everyone knows.
You’ve loved and been loved
By family and many others,
Just know how dear you are
To me, precious Grandmother.
I love you so much.
Untraditional,
Our grandmother certainly was
For she championed both
Daisy dukes and margaritas—
Some of us here have tasted
Her temper and sarcasm,
But we’ve all known her love--
A love so tenacious it’s difficult to fathom.
She will be missed as we reach
Milestones, both big and small,
And I’m sure we’ll even miss
Her unsolicited advice through it all.
I think the highest honor we
Could pay at such an hour
Is to take the good and best
She gave and make it ours.
In short, to give generously
In our plenty and in our need
To do what good we can
By planting little seeds.
